Police helicopters have been searching a park in London for ex-soldier Daniel Abed Khalife, who is believed to have escaped Wandsworth prison on the underside of a lorry dressed as a chef.
In a separate interview with ITV, James Cleverly was asked whether he was confident Daniel Khalife will be found.
A report by His Majesty's Chief Inspectorate of Prisons found that Wandsworth"remains one of the most overcrowded prisons in the country, with most prisoners sharing a cell built for one". She adds that Khalife was given"a pretty decent head start" to"disappear into the crowds" during the hour between the time the lorry on which he escaped left Wandsworth prison and the time it was searched by officers.Officers were stationed at key entry and exit points into the early hours today, with two police helicopters overhead.
The 21-year-old former soldier escaped from Wandsworth Prison on Wednesday morning by strapping himself to the underside of a lorry, sparking a 150-officer manhunt. They spoke to the driver and carried out a search, which revealed strapping on the underside of the van.We also received an image and video of the Bidfood van which appears to have been involved in the escape.
"He's probably monitored the movements of guards and vehicles and how the system works from from the inside out and he's used that to his advantage," he explained.Helicopter follows route taken by delivery vanOfficers believe Daniel Khalife strapped himself to the vehicle in order to escape.'Whole criminal justice system is in meltdown'
