'He was clearly well-bred, in good condition and his feet were recently trimmed'
A prize-winning pony sent lounges a-wagging in a Rossendale village after making a bid for freedom over the Easter weekend.
It was in the early hours of the morning that Joint Head of Section at the sanctuary, Sheila Lindley received a phone call about the lost pony. “The police came to the sanctuary in the early morning of Good Friday,” she said.“Ian, our night watch, phoned me at 3:30am to go and help to catch the loose pony as he had been reported walking on the roads and wasn’t too far from the bypass. I got to work quickly and the police took me to the pony’s location.
As soon as Sheila started walking with the pony, she soon got acquainted and even gave their new guest a name. She added: “It was on this walk that I started to refer to him as ‘Bob’, which was how he’s been known to us at the sanctuary. It was after 'Bob' got comfortable in the Sanctuary that the staff started working on where the pony had come from. They scanned him for a microchip, but the scanner could not pick one up.
