Proposed Carlsbad Orion Center would feature offices, warehouses and parking for city services [Breaking]
Carlsbad city officials are proposing the construction of a two-story office building, warehouses and a four-story parking structure on 8.44 acres near the city’s safety training center and police station.
A preliminary estimate of the cost is $49 million, and the amount will be updated as plans proceed, Ray said. Most of money has been collected over the years as developer fees deposited in a community facilities district fund.The buildings will allow the city to vacate three sites — the city’s public works facilities on El Camino Real and on Oak Avenue, and a parks and recreation location on Carlsbad Village Drive.
The proposed parking structure will have 225 spaces, including 30 for electric vehicles. It will have a gated entrance for employees at the intersection of Orion Street and Impala Drive, and visitors’ access from Orion Way. The public safety center is in the midst of a major renovation to install new mechanical, electrical and security systems, also new furnishings, a staff lounge and a remodeled dispatch center. That work began in December 2021 and is expected to conclude in February 2024.
