He's spoken out about the ordeal

A man has told of his shock after having 'pop poured over his head' in what he believes it to be a homophobic incident. Calvin Kirlew, who identifies himself as "proudly gay", has spoken out after being the victim of an assault in Nottingham city centre.

"We were walking at the bus stop on Queen Street and they were there, blatantly laughing and trying to intimidate me. I just threw a comment 'grow up' and said it was ridiculous." "Then she threw a bottle of pop [fizzy drink] over me. It was purple and it stained my clothes. That is when I called the police."

He added: "I can guarantee that I would have hit her back someone would have done something. And also the homophobia - I know this kind of thing happens all around the world all the time." "She was conscious, laughing and joking about the situation. She was hurling homophobic abuse towards me.
