Pursuit of stolen vehicle from San Marcos to Escondido ends in crash [Breaking]
A driver in a stolen car led authorities on a 9-mile pursuit in North County that ended in a crash Tuesday night, officials said.
Sheriff’s deputies had tried to stop the Honda Civic about 8:15 p.m. near state Route 78 and Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos, but the driver did not stop, prompting the pursuit, sheriff’s Lieutenant Aaron Meleen said. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed T-boned a vehicle near the intersection of Centre City Parkway and West El Norte Parkway. The impact caused the victim’s vehicle to smash into an Escondido police vehicle and a deputy’s vehicle, Escondido police Lt. Craig Miller said.The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police, driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.
The Escondido police officer whose vehicle was struck complained of back pain but declined medical treatment, Miller said. The deputy appeared to be OK. The damage to both law enforcement vehicles was moderate, and neither was operable.
