An Australian academic, who is used to extreme heat, has shared her top tips for staying safe in potential 40°C weather ⬇️
Unlike many other countries that frequently experience extremely hot weather where air conditioning is commonplace, the UK is less well equipped to deal with the blistering heat, as such conditions are not so common here.
Her first piece of advice was to close your curtains, “all the way, all day”, to prevent the sun from heating up your home. She also recommended buying a plant mister or spray bottle and turning it on yourself when needed – and your pets, to help keep them cool, which is “extremely important” during high temperatures.
Hydration is essential. Dr Mackin Roberts said: “Don’t drink too much coffee, and don’t drink too much booze. Neither of those things are going to do you the world of good. But do drink plenty of fluids.”
