An influential Putin adviser, Mr. Karaganov, has stated that Russia could launch a nuclear strike against a NATO country without triggering global nuclear war. He argues that the threat of limited nuclear use should deter further Western support for Ukraine, claiming it's necessary to 'save the world and Russia'.
An influential Putin adviser has said Russia could launch a nuclear strike on a Nato country without triggering all-out nuclear war“The assertion that any limited use of nuclear weapons will necessarily lead to a general nuclear Armageddon does not stand up to criticism,” he said.
In response to the strikes on Russian border regions, the Kremlin has ramped up its threats against the West, with the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, saying that Moscow would consider the United States and its allies to be parties to the war if they allowed Kyiv to use long-range weapons.
For more than a year, he was the most prominent figure calling for Russia’s nuclear doctrine to take a tougher stance on the West, with Moscow now saying it plans to revise the guidelines. It comes as Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov on 3 September confirmed the nuclear doctrine would be changed, with fears the definition could be expanded to include other acts of war against Russia.
