Trey Lance, the 49ers rookie quarterback who will likely be the starter against the Houston Texans on Sunday, spoke with the media Friday for the first time since Oct. 10 when he started a 17-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.Q: Heard a lot about how much improvement you’ve made behind the scenes. How do you feel better prepared and where do you think your improvements have been made the most?I think all around. It was a long time ago that I played.
Q: What was this week like for you running first team so much? Jimmie Ward said you completed a couple of passes on him. How helpful is it to go against the first-team defense which you’ve done most of the season anyhow?Going against those guys is awesome, and obviously a huge challenge. With Fred and Jimmie, I could name the whole defense. But Jimmie’s locker is right next to mine actually so we get to talk a little bit after practice. It’s always good to get reps against those guys.

Looking back at the game, specifically a couple of plays. Obviously the fourth down, converting, the fourth-and-1 at the goal line. I think if I score there it changes the whole game.
Q: Who have you leaned on outside the quarterback room in the locker room to get some guidance and leadership?I’m super blessed. I could name 30 guys that different personality types each in their own way. Obviously Fred is a great one, Jimmie Ward, talking about defensive guys, I could go all the way across. Alex Mack, Laken, our whole offensive line, Trent. We just have so many guys that have been in the league for so long.
