Acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino names the one movie remake he would have willingly broken his original movie streak and explains why.

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino revealed his unrealized plans for a movie remake that would have broken his streak of original films. Launching his career as an independent filmmaker off the back of his 1992 crime drama Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino has risen to become one of the most unique and widely celebrated voices in modern Hollywood.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT During a recent episode of the Video Archives Podcast that Tarantino produces with fellow director Roger Avary, the former spoke about plans that almost would have seen him embark on his first and only movie remake as part of Showtime’s short-lived Rebel Highway. In a 10-week series that focused on remakes of famous 1950s B-movies, Tarantino spoke about his intentions to adapt the 1957 crime drama Rock All Night.

"I really liked Rock All Night. So I would have actually done a remake of it, and I had a whole thing in mind about it The script is fantastic, [Dick] Miller is fantastic — that is the closest I ever came to actually doing a remake. If you’ve seen Rock All Night before, you’ll know that part of the thing is these gangsters who take over a roadhouse, and hold everybody hostage.

Why Tarantino’s Unmade Films Are Almost As Legendary As Those He Did Make A self-proclaimed cinephile with extensive knowledge of movie history, Tarantino’s own films are, in many ways, carefully constructed love letters to the work of the visionary artists he holds dear.

Over the years, Tarantino’s name has been regularly associated with multiple movie projects which would never come to pass. While some stories, such as Tarantino's plans to make his own James Bond and Star Trek movies have long been a source of pop culture discourse, others, such as his Rock All Night remake, have failed to attract as much public attention. However, the one thing they all have in common is that audiences seem to view them as missed opportunities.
