The Rangers opened the postseason by winning two series and their first seven games, six of those on the road including Games 1 and 2 of this series. Defending champion Houston, meanwhile, went 39-42 at Minute Maid Park during the regular season and their problems at home have continued this postseason, where they are 1-3.
In that game, Houston reliever Bryan Abreu hit Texas outfielder Adolis García with a pitch in the eighth inning, sparking a 12-minute delay punctuated by a benches-clearing altercation. Major League Baseball suspended Abreu for two games and fined him for what they called a “dangerous” pitch while fining García and Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr., Texas pitcher Matt Bush, and Astros manager Dusty Baker.
