The addition of Heim — an All-Star who's hit well vs. LHP as a right-handed batter — could do wonders for the Rangers' offense.
Heim has hit .147 in with an OBP of .213 and a 27.7 strikeout percentage in 47 plate appearances
since his return from the injured list. In three at bats vs. left-handed pitchers as a left-handed batter, he’s 0 for 3. His clearance to bat right-handed could be a boon to the Rangers’ offense. Heim is hitting .324 with eight extra base hits and 15 RBIs from the right side against lefties this season, and Texas’ right-handed options are especially limited off of the bench. Catchers Sam Huff and Austin Hedges are the Rangers’ lone right-handed bench bats on a regular basis, and Robbie Grossman — a switch hitter who hits best against lefties — has played his way into a consistent starting role in the last week.
Heim, an AL All-Star starter in July, has slashed .266/.323/.449 with 15 home runs and 77 RBIs in 106 games this season.All-Star Josh Jung fielded soft short hoppers at third base before Sunday’s game. Bochy expects the 25-year-old to return within three weeks: “He played catch, no problem. He’s really starting to pick it up with the rehab.” ... Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi pitched another bullpen on Sunday after Friday’s went well.
