Philippe Clement has axed another Rangers player as his big rebuild gathers pace
Rangers reject Jose Cifuentes is set to cut his Brazil loan short and join Connor Goldson at Aris Limassol.
The Ecuador international was signed by Michael Beale for £1.2million last summer, with the former Ibrox boss hailing the former LAFC ace as the man to take his side to the next level. But the 25-year-old failed to make any impact at all in his 20 appearances for the Light Blues before being sent back to South America on a 12-month loan with Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro.
Things haven't exactly gone to plan with World Cup winner Ronaldo's boyhood side either, though, and his stint in Belo Horizonte is now set to be cut short five months early. Record Sport understands Cifuentes is now on his way to Cyprus on a fresh year-long loan. The deal includes an option to buy next summer, which would again help free up cash for Philippe Clement.
Cifiuentes was in the team that lost to Aris last October but he'll be hoping for better times with Aleksey Shpilevsky as he prepares to link up with defender Goldson. As revealed earlier on Friday, the centre-back is also on his way to the Mediterranean island having been given permission by boss Philippe Clement to skip Wednesday's friendly defeat to Birmingham to hold talks with Aris chiefs.
