The deadline for Texas to set its ALCS roster is at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy talks with pitcher Jon Gray after he threw a simulated game during a workout in preparation for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros on Saturday, Oct. 14, in Houston.Scherzer recovered well from his most recent simulated game and was to throw another bullpen session Saturday afternoon ahead of the club’s official 26-man roster submission. The roster must be submitted by 10 a.m. CT on Sunday.
“Max is doing well,” manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday. “Jon is somebody we’ll discuss. He’s a guy that is kind of on the fence, to be honest.”If Scherzer joins the roster, likely as a starter for either Game 3 or 4, the Rangers would have to remove another pitcher. Neither Martín Pérez, Chris Stratton nor Matt Bush appeared in either of the first two rounds of the playoffs. If Gray is added, it would likely be as a reliever, which would necessitate the trimming of yet another pitcher.
