Logan Reider ranks among the all\u002Dtime top rookies in University of Saskatchewan Huskies women\u0027s basketball history.
Not only has the 18-year-old guard started all 20 games for Canada’s No. 2-ranked Saskatchewan women’s basketball team, she has averaged 11.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game to go along with 30 assists, 30 steals and three blocked shots, overall.Stay on the ball with the 306 Sports Fix newsletter.
“She’s just so even-keeled, confident out there. Her fundamentals are sound and she’s just so confident in that. It’s really been fun to watch her and how much she’s improved. If she’s open, she’s going to shoot it. She’s a great shooter. Not only that but she’s been able to create off the dribble a little bit and get to the rim.”
“I was preparing myself to sit the bench, actually, because, as a rookie, not many starting spots are available,” admitted Reider. “The opportunity came because of injuries, so I just kind of saw it and took it and it’s grown since them. “I was super busy,” admitted the 5-foot-10 tall Reider. “My summers were jam-packed, travelling from sport to sport, but it definitely paid off. My volleyball helped me with basketball and my basketball helped me with my volleyball.”Article content
“I grew up playing hockey as well, and throwing around with my brother on the ice,” said Reider, adding that she stopped playing hockey after Grade 8. “I’ve been competing with him ever since I was small.”Article content“She was highly recruited on the volleyball side as well,” noted Thomaidis. “She probably could have gone anywhere for volleyball. We’re lucky we were able to convince her to play basketball.
