The U.S. Coast Guard will be back out Wednesday 6 a.m. to begin their search and recovery efforts after Baltimore, Maryland's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed
Parts of the Francis Scott Key Bridge remain after a container ship collided with one of the bridgeâs supports, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Baltimore. The major bridge in Baltimore snapped and collapsed after a container ship rammed into it early Tuesday, and several vehicles fell into the river below. Rescuers were searching for multiple people in the water. The U.S. Coast Guard will be back out Wednesday 6 a.m.
Officials said Wednesday morning, they will "be in a better position to understand the dynamics of what we're dealing with." "It's a really heartbreaking conclusion to a challenging day," Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Tuesday night. “We put every single asset possible; air, land and sea assets to add to the members’ survivability for these families. Even though we're moving on now to a recovery mission we're still fully committed to making sure that we are going to use every single asset to now bring a sense of closure to these families.
7News is still waiting to learn more about the identity of the victims but officials revealed they are from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador. Hours before officials called off the search and rescue, a statement acquired by the Associated Press from the workers' employer, Brawner Builders, claims the workers were presumed dead by the company.
