Farage came onto the stage to Eminem’s “Without Me”mo to a standing ovation, before quickly donning a pair of glasses in a jibe at Sir Keir Starmer over his acceptance of free gifts. The Birmingham conference was being viewed by party insiders as an opportunity to professionalise and, crucially, monetise its operation in a bid to further expand its reach, with Farage promising to “rigorously vet” its candidates under its new look operation.
It is believed that within that number there will be more prospective candidates, who will help the party broaden its appeal beyond its base of the largely over-55 year old working class voters. During the election campaign, the party became mired in allegations of racism and homophobia after activists described Rishi Sunak a “f***ing P***”, suggested small boat migrants should be shot and that the Pride flag was “degenerate”.
