The NHS has urged for black people to register as organ donors
BLACK ORGAN donors are less likely to come forward because of religious and cultural beliefs, according to a BBC Radio 1Xtra podcast.
Beliefs around religion and culture among the black community have been blamed for the resistance in becoming a registered organ donor. If You Don’t Know “And in one of the churches we went to, someone said they wanted to go to heaven whole and not with parts of their body removed. And we obviously had to challenge saying that the concept of heaven is a spiritual thing, that you don’t need any of your physical organs in.”
However, figures from 2021/22 showed that black people only made up 2% of the donors, despite making up 4% of the population.
