This unnecessary display shows how out of touch the TV chef is with the average person
He’s done it again. TV chef Jamie Oliver and lovely wife Jools have renewed their wedding vows for the second time, on this occasion in Vegas with the ubiquitous Elvis impersonator official. I wish the couple well – especially long-suffering Jools, who is a stalwart wife and mum – but by doing this, hasn’t Jamie shown how out of touch he is with the common man… again?
Just a couple of years ago, we were lamenting the TV chef for being “out of touch” when he cooked a “cheap” meal which consisted of Cumberland sausages, red wine, parmesan and fresh lasagne sheets. He reckoned it was a cheap evening dinner during a cost of living crisis. Then there was his campaignThe working-class-made-good exterior seems to often hide a distinct lack of understanding of ordinary folk. And this renewal of vows is no exception.
I went to a vow renewal ceremony once. Both people were in their 70s and had been married 50 years – that made sense. It was a huge achievement, through thick and thin, sickness and health.
