North Texas Rep. Roger Williams is running for U.S. House of Representatives speaker after previously declining a bid for the leadership role.

A North Texas congressman who earlier declined to run for House Speaker is seeking the leadership role after all, according to the chair of the House Republican Conference.
Rep. Roger Williams, a Willow Park Republican, announced on Saturday he was sitting out of the speaker race, but a lot has happened in the days since. He is now in the running as Republican infighting over who should lead the U.S. House of Representatives continues. House Republican Conference Chair Elise StefanikWilliams’ office did not immediately return a request for comment.
A slate of nine Republican candidates was announced Sunday, and by Tuesday afternoon Rep. Tom Emmer, a Minnesota Republican and the House Republican Conference’s new speaker pick,It was clear he wouldn’t be able to get the votes of Republican holdouts, to according to NPR. That prompted a call for another slate of nominees, who had until 4:30 p.m. CT to announce their bids.
The latest list announced Tuesday includes Rogers, as well as Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, Rep. Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee, Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee, Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma and Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, according to Stefanik’s post.Williams represents District 25, which covers much of the area between Arlington and Abilene and includes Callahan, Comanche, Eastland, Erath, Hood, Jack, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Stephens, Tarrant and Young counties.
