It turns out that the Jim Harbaugh-NFL saga isn’t quite as over as we were led to believe. The Denver Broncos were still in play. At least they tried to be, according to a report.

, Broncos owner Greg Penner flew to Ann Arbor to meet with Jim Harbaugh in person about Denver’s coaching vacancy — after Harbaugh’s public reaffirmation to the Wolverines. However, he left town knowing his franchise would have to move on.

Broncos owner Greg Penner and University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh met last week in Ann Arbor to discuss Denver’s head coaching position without any deal materializing, league sources told ESPN. Although Harbaugh two weeks ago announced he was staying at Michigan, Penner did his due diligence and still traveled to Ann Arbor to meet with the coach in person, like he’s done with seven other candidates during the Broncos’ head-coaching search.

While it is troubling that Harbaugh entertained the interview, it’s at least a good omen that Penner left with Harbaugh no longer being a candidate. Of course, Harbaugh wouldn’t likely fully turn down an NFL owner out of respect. Harbaugh did interview with the Broncos brass via Zoom before committing himself to Michigan once again. Harbaugh reportedly called Penner to let him know after that he planned to stay at Michigan.
