The San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness began releasing a monthly census in October. The latest report shows about 1,400 people in San Diego County became homeless last month.
found the number of people who fall into homelessness continues to outpace the number of people who are housed.
The 647 people who found housing represents the lowest number of people leaving homelessness this year. The only lower number of people who found housing was in October 2021, when 609 were provided some type of housing. Regional Task Force on Homelessness Chief Executive Officer Tamera Kohler said last month that the data would be studied to determine why numbers fluctuate wildly. As an example of that variance, October 2021 saw 609 people housed and April 2022 saw 1,429. The number of people falling into homelessness for the first time saw a low of 1,078 last February and a high of 1,650 in May.
