RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel has refused to blame former President Trump for midterm defeats that cost Republicans the Senate.
Business's Stuart Varney on Monday, while most recent polls still show Trump favored to win the 2024 Republican presidential primary.said that McDaniel had limited ability to influence elections but her likely re-election pointed to Trump's continued influence.and power in the Republican Party may explain how the GOP is responding to midterm losses.
"McDaniel's expected reelection as RNC chair just confirms the obvious: that the Trump wing of the GOP is the party's 'establishment,'" Thomas Gift, founding director of University College London's Centre on U.S. Politics, told"In any functional party, heads would be rolling after such a monumentally disappointing election as Republicans had in November. Instead, what we see is a doubling down on a losing strategy," he said.
"McDaniel has been chair of the RNC during three calamitous election campaigns. But the efforts to replace her are like demands by the fans of a losing sports team that it fire the coach. The point is not that McDaniel or the coach is responsible for the failure.
