“The Rutgers game will be a very important scrimmage for us,” he said. “I’ve had people who have seen Rutgers practice and they say they’re very good, so I think they’re going to be much more advanced than we are in terms of knowing their system and I think it will be good for us.
The Red Storm are set to play in a loaded Big East where five teams — including defending NCAA champion UConn — are ranked in preseason Top 25 polls. As for his own future, he said: “I am more passionate today than I was when I was 30 because my window’s closing. Let’s face it, I’m 71. I signed a six-year contract, and I’m hoping I can finish it.”
