Springfield, who’ll be playing Space Center Houston's Moon 2 Mars Festival on March 18, has found that kids today pick up his music from all kinds of sources. “I’ve seen, you know, younger ones who’ve been introduced to it by their parents,” he says. “I’ve seen younger people who’ve picked it up hearing it on the radio or seeing it in the movies.
He has done better acting, and has worked with better actors. He played Meryl Streep’s partner in music and in love in “Ricki and the Flash,” the final narrative feature from the late Jonathan Demme. He recently co-starred in the sitcom pilot “It’s a Lot,” playing a foul-mouthed rocker who’s bankrupt due to six divorces. When writer/co-star Dan Rosenberg told Springfield he had written the character with him in mind, he was more than happy to assume the role.
