Ride on-board the manic Pikes Peak-winning run.
Pikes Peak is America’s ultimate motorsports event. The 12.42-mile hillclimb features some 156 turns, twisting around the mountain until you reach its 14,115-foot summit. While many racers take on the challenge in production-based machines, Shute and crew field a more focused open-wheel chassis. The team has been running this same car for a few years at this point, allowing for continued and consistent improvements to their approach.
Racing in thedoesn't hurt their efforts either, with little more than a paragraph dictating rules and regulations. Power is provided by a 2.1-liter turbocharged unit from Honda, which sounds diabolical throughout the clip. A paddle-shifted racing gearbox handles ratio changes, though this component provides some troubles during this particular run. There are several places throughout the run where Shute is unable to get a downshift when needed, almost to the point of stalling.
