Riot police will be on standby the “foreseeable future” amid fears of more far-right violence, senior officers have said, after thousands of anti-racism protesters gathered to face down further riots.

And in Blackpool, one man was arrested near to the site of a planned protest.
A business listed as a site for a potential anti-immigration protest is boarded up in Westcliff, a suburb of Southend, as people prepare for more unrest A solicitor, whose family firm practises immigration law in northern England, said: “If there is any violence or destruction, all the businesses in the area are family-run businesses – so if they target us, everyone gets affected.”
A Samaritans charity shop boarded up in Westcliff, a suburb of Southend Posts on X indicate that other surgeries have sent similar messages to patients.
