The Marathon proved to be a massive success for Leeds.
The inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon took place on Sunday, 14th May and was a resounding success in raising money and awareness for MND. In a fresh update courtesy of the Rhinos, it has been confirmed an astounding £4 million in charitable donations has been raised from runners, who took part in fundraising efforts for their own chosen charities.
The City of Leeds came together in aid of a great cause. The event was inspired by Burrow who participated alongside his friend and teammate Kevin Sinfield. The image of former Rhinos captain Sinfield carrying Burrow over the line was an iconic image. Over 100,000 spectators lined the streets to support the 15,000 participants as they crossed the finish line at Headingley.
On announcing the fundraising total, Sinfield said: “On behalf of Rob, Lindsey and I, we would just like to thank everyone for a huge team effort on Sunday. We made sure that the first Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon was a success and I hope that it was a very special day for you as it was for us.“To runners, wheelchair users, volunteers, spectators, sponsors, Run For All, Leeds City Council, Leeds Rhinos and all of the different charities, to all of you, thank you.
“I’m delighted to share with you that the running total raised for 341 different charities across the UK now sits at over £4million. Friendship was at the heart of this marathon, run for a mate with a mate, and I hope that you are all glowing in the knowledge that we get to help so many people across the UK who need us.Read next
