Rob Vanstone fears for the health of Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo, who is to start Friday despite ligament damage to his left knee.
Eight days earlier, Fajardo had aggravated an injury to his left knee during a 30-24 loss to Toronto during Touchdown Atlantic in Wolfville, N.S. Afterwards, the Roughriders’ franchise player told reporters that he had suffered “a major setback” to the knee.
It has also come to light that the Roughriders’ franchise player is dealing with damage to his medial collateral ligament. Therefore, he continues to wear a knee brace, with which he was first outfitted after being hurt June 18 against the host Edmonton Elks. It is understood that football is an inherently dangerous sport. Everything can change in one second, with one hit, even for someone who was previously unscathed.
Fajardo’s nimble feet have allowed him to escape the pressure for most of his time with the Green and White, a team that he has represented in exemplary fashion since 2019.After carrying the ball 10 times for 42 yards and a touchdown in a season-opening, 30-13 victory over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats on June 11, Fajardo has run the football only 18 times for 56 yards over his last five contests.
