Ricky Hamblin admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, criminal damage and possession of cannabis
A man locked his partner inside a hotel room during a vicious drunken assault, leaving her screaming for help from the balcony. Ricky Hamblin left the woman's face bloodied and bruised and left her gasping for breath as he throttled her.
She started to pack her bag. But then Hamblin punched her in her right eye as she did so. Ms Kelley tried to leave, but Hamblin blocked her path and locked the door. Ms Kelley attempted to use her phone to call for help, but Hamblin took it from her. He also bit her on the arm during the incident and had left cigarette burns on the carpets. Police attended the scene and arrested him outside the premises.
Addressing the court on behalf of the "brilliant dad" and "neighbour who goes the extra mile", defence counsel Charles Lander said: "It is rare to have someone with no recollection of events to say 'if that's what she said, that's what happened'. I hope the court will accept that there is genuine remorse.
Sentencing, Judge Watson said: "Unhappily, although you have these abilities as a father, you have another side which has shown itself repeatedly over the years - the violent side to your character. This is not the first time you have been violent to her.
