General manager Billy Eppler credited the youthful trio of Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos for providing much-needed offense.
At least some of the Mets’ offseason plans were based on the belief that they would be getting some help for the lineup from their prospects.
Mets general manager Billy Eppler said rookies Francisco Alvarez , Brett Baty and Mark Vientos have given the lineup a lift.Alvarez, who started behind the plate again on Friday, with Tomas Nido on the bench, entered Friday hitless in his last nine at-bats, but with eight homers this season. The rookie also has impressed the pitching staff — and Eppler — with his defense.
Fellow rookie Baty was in the lineup on Friday, hitting fifth, while the righty-hitting Vientos was the DH against Toronto right-hander Chris Bassitt, with lefty-swinging Daniel Vogelbach on the bench.
