South Lanarkshire Council approved plans for the former Mecca Bingo on Rutherglen Main Street to be transformed into a brand new restaurant.

There are “mixed feelings” amongst Rutherglen politicians regarding the approved plans to convert the abandoned Main Street bingo hall into a new restaurant.

He said: "It is positive that after such a long time there may now be development of the old bingo hall which will improve a rundown part of the Main Street.

Haughey, who has fond memories of the building in its heyday as a cinema, expressed her delight at the prospect of its rejuvenation."Since the pandemic, however, it has been vandalised and looks rundown. I am delighted the building will now get a new lease of life and become a local landmark to be proud of once again."
