Salpointe completes first boys' soccer three peat in school history by beating Saguaro 4-1
History was made at Glendale High School Friday night, as No. 1 Salpointe Catholic made school history by winning the boys soccer title three times in a row. The Lancers defeated No. 2 Saguaro 4-1 to bring home the trophy, giving Salpointe their fourth championship in five years.
After a frenetic first half full of chances, the game remained at a stalemate, with both teams not being able to find the back of the net. In the second half, the Lancers took advantage of some brilliant opportunities. While Saguaro knocked in a goal to pull within 2-1, the Lancers immediately responded, with sophomore forward Leo Gutierrez firing in a 1-on-1 chance to make it 3-1. Valenzuela then scored his second goal to make the score 4-1 and wrap up the championship for Salpointe."It's about team mentality," said Weber.
