We chat with TwistedMetal star Samoa Joe about how professional wrestling helped him prepare to play Sweet Tooth in the peacock series and what fans can expect from the iconic character's past:

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In Twisted Metal, based on the popular PlayStation games, John Doe is a fast-talking outsider with no memory of the time before the wasteland the world has become. When offered a brighter future in exchange for delivering a mysterious package across the post-apocalyptic wasteland, he jumps at the chance.

Samoa Joe: I think when you talk about Sweet Tooth, I think it's a big part of everybody's childhood, especially if you picked up a game controller. When I was asked, "Hey, have you heard of Twisted Metal?" I said, "Did you own a PlayStation?" Because, I think it actually came with the system when you bought it. [Chuckles] Twisted Metal, in general, Sweet Tooth obviously being the face of it was something that was really very big to me when I was a kid.

The Twisted Metal games, from what I remember, didn't have a ton of story. But there were some consistencies: Sweet Tooth and vehicular combat on a grand scale. What was it about Michael Jonathan Smith's approach that really attracted you to this world? I don't want to talk about it too much, but we do get to explore Sweet Tooth's past in the show. What surprised you the most when you were exploring Sweet Tooth's past, without any spoilers?

Samoa Joe: My car — I've said this to a few other people — would probably like a 1980 Toyota 4x4, because they're indestructible. I don't know if y'all know that, they don't need oil, gas, nothing, perfect for the post-apocalyptic environment. You can shoot them up, they don't go down. I think I've seen third-world countries actually use them in the army and beat militaries quite larger than them.

Samoa Joe: It was a fantastic experience. Anthony's an incredible actor in every right, and tremendously helpful on set. Obviously, it's a very new realm for me, Anthony did more than he could to make me feel comfortable, and it definitely benefited the performance. We had a great time on set, and I hope that it translates to the screen.
