A painting by San Antonio artist Franco Mondini-Ruiz appears in Ben Affleck movie ‘Deep Water’
A scene from the Hulu thriller “Deep Water” features a painting by Franco Mondini-Ruiz in the background. When friends shared screen shots on Facebook of one of his paintings in a scene from the erotic thriller “Deep Water,” Franco Mondini-Ruiz was glad to see it. But he wasn’t surprised.
The people behind the movie had contacted the prolific San Antonio artist to get his blessing, and they paid him for the privilege of featuring his work. He said the fee was between $300 and $500, but he doesn’t remember the exact figure.“It’s seldom that they follow through in the sense of asking your permission,” the prolific San Antonio artist said. “I’ve seen some pretty raunchy movies where I see my paintings in the background.
“It got a nice little cameo in that scene,” he said. “There’s a moment where there’s more of my painting than Ben Affleck in the scene.” Mondini-Ruiz has not yet seen the movie, which was directed by Adrian Lyne and released in March on Hulu.
