Unions successfully overturned pension cuts with litigation that lasted nearly a decade

San Diego is paying $667,000 in attorneys’ fees to four city labor unions that successfully fought to overturn 2012’s Proposition B pension cuts, which had eliminated pensions for all new hires except police officers.

The unions are responsible for more than $500,000 in legal fees they incurred leading up to December 2015, which was when the state’s Public Employment Relations Board ruled that the city had not placed Proposition B on the ballot legally.
