Seventeen-year-old San Diegan Trevor Svajda has been twice to the U.S. Open Tennis Championships to watch his older brother Zach compete.The two brothers, in fact, are each in the men’s qualifying brackets that start Tuesday.Beyond his family ties, Trevor Svajda also has connection at the U.S. Open with his friend and occasional practice partner at the Barnes Center, Zhengqing “Jim” Ji, of San Diego.“I’m super excited,’’ Trevor Svajda said. “It’s all a great opportunity.

But he’s more consistent than me.’’
“It’s a dream come true .’’ said Ji, 18, an incoming freshman at Yale. “It’s one of the biggest tournaments that I’ve played, so I’m really looking forward to it.’’ Ji had gained some experience on clay courts in tourney play over the years, including a pro event in which he earned his first pro ranking points. As it has turned out, the surface suits his style particular well.
