Because of the city allowing cannabis sales and consumption at the park’s Hippie Hill and Robin Williams Meadow, the 4/20 celebration will only be open to adults age 21 and older. 420day

4/20 festivities on April 20, 2019. An estimated 20,000 people gather in Golden Gate park to celebrate all things weed at Hippie Hill every year, making it the largest celebration in the country. San Francisco will allow on-site cannabis sales at Wednesday’s 4/20 celebration in Golden Gate Park for the first time in the annual event’s history, city officials said Monday.

“We know that this event at one point was occurring whether we wanted it to or not,” Breed said. “And over the years, in working with the cannabis industry, we’ve been able to make adjustments in order to provide the appropriate safety and restroom facilities and the cleanup necessary in order to ensure that this was not as problematic for the people who live in and visit the area.”

“The success of this event will set the tone for other events,” Patel said, adding, “it’s really important that we get this right.” City officials also urged 4/20 attendees to take proper health and safety precautions by using public transit to get to and from the park and ensuring that cannabis consumed at the event is from a reputable vendor.
