A San Jose police officer remains hospitalized Thursday after being shot while responding to a disturbance call.

According to San Jose Police Chief Anthony Mata, the officer sustained gunshot wounds to her upper body, areas not covered by her bulletproof vest. The officer's name has not yet been released.

"Shortly after arrival, officers made contact at the residence and immediately began taking fire from the suspect," a police spokesperson said.A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting a San Jose police officer who had been responding to a call about a family disturbance on Wednesday, according to the police department.
