A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by and dragged beneath a departing tourist train this week, according to police.
The injured teenager remained under treatment Thursday at an area trauma center after Wednesday’s collision but was expected to live, Santa Cruz Deputy Police Chief Jon Bush said.
“The investigation is still being conducted and we’re still trying to pull video,” Bush said. “The train was departing from in front of the Boardwalk. According to the investigation, the train staff had conducted an exterior check to make sure it was clear. The train went in motion and sounded its horn and alarm and proceeded up the tracks.”
Bush said his department was still determining fault in the crash and was seeking passerby cellphone videos. He urged eyewitnesses with recordings to call police investigations at 831-420-5820.
