Intervention cardiologist Dr. Janine Eckstein is 'absolutely' expecting patient outcomes to improve, now that they can be treated locally.
This year, the provincial government spent $330,000 to establish a transcatheter mitral valve repair program in the province. Two surgeries have already been completed this year, and eight more are planned.
“I have no scars,” she said. “The little great-grandkids say, ‘but, great-grandma, your heart must hurt.’Nordlee was glad she didn’t have to travel far away from home to get heart surgery “I am proud to see the people of Saskatchewan receive this life-saving, specialized technology in this province,” said Eckstein. “It is very intimidating for patients, and their families, to travel for a procedure that can change their quality of life.”
