Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan says out\u002Dof\u002Dprovince shipments have been halted at the request of the Ministry of Environment.

Shercom representatives have stated there aren’t enough scrap tires to support two facilities in Saskatchewan, and have indicated the company won’t bid to become the northern-area processor. Shercom’s processing plant was built to provide material for its manufacturing business making moulded rubber and other rubber-based products — without that supply of rubber, the company’s representatives have said it could become necessary to leave the province.

Arnt said the shipments to Calgary have since stopped, with tires. stored in Saskatchewan “on a voluntary basis” following a request from the Ministry of Environment. He said CRM’s plant is expected to open this month in Moose Jaw, and that the stored tires are to be processed there. The Chamber has previously spoken out against the loss of jobs at Shercom for the benefit of an American firm. Aebig wrote to Minister of Environment Dana Skoropad calling for a review of TSS procurement policies in light of the contract given to CRM.Article contentA request for proposals TSS had planned to issue seeking a northern processor has been put on hold pending the completion of Swan’s review, which is expected to wrap up this summer.
