'Gentle Hum of Spring' is a nod to the family honey farm in Nipawin and nominated in the Saskatchewan Short Film category at ReginaFilmFest. yxe yqr .
“That’s also a theme in the film, it’s also the generational quality of the farm and whether the main character, who’s portrayed by myself, feels capable of continuing the lineage of the farm.”Garez said part of the reason he doesn’t want to take over the farm is some of the struggles they have experienced, and his siblings feel the same way.
Garez said while he thinks the film raises awareness about the issues surrounding beekeeping, that is not its purpose. “It’s not scientific — someone who is not a bee-keeper could absolutely appreciate the film and doesn’t need to know anything about bees to understand what’s happening.”“The narration is borrowed from things I heard my dad say growing up,” he said.
Garez was supposed to begin filming in March, 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the project by a year.
