The former cast member will host SNL for the first time, a year after controversy surrounding his departure from the live sketch comedy series.
Pete Davidson is returning to Saturday Night Live as a first-time host, following his eight seasons as a cast member on the late-night live comedy variety show. Joining the SNL ensemble in time for its season 40 premiere at just 20 years old, the comedian quickly became a standout figure on the late-night satire show.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT One year after Pete Davidson's Saturday Night Live departure, Page Six has reported that the comedian will return to host the sketch comedy show live on May 6. Davidson's return will allow him to promote his upcoming Peacock series Bupkis which he executive produces alongside SNL creator Lorne Michaels. Davidson could make a Weekend Update appearance as himself and reprise one of his most beloved sketch characters, Chad.
Why Pete Davidson Left Saturday Night Live Davidson's return to SNL comes as a surprise in light of the breakout star's increasingly negative comments throughout the past year about certain aspects of his time on the show. Mere months before his official exit, Davidson publicly declared he "should be done with that show because they make fun of [him] on it" in an interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
It also seems likely that the increasing conflation of Davidson's personal life with his SNL persona led him to pursue time away from the limelight. After years of his high-profile relationships turning Davidson into a tabloid and Twitter fodder, public attention to the comedian reached its apex when he began dating mega-influencer Kim Kardashian and publicly feuded with her ex-husband Kanye West during his last season on SNL.
Davidson has noted that, ultimately, his decision to leave came down to his sense that he had contributed as much as he could to the show and was ready to take on new projects following the successes of Big Time Adolescence and The King of Staten Island. Still, the thriving actor maintains his gratitude to Lorne Michaels and his time on the show for launching his career. Davidson's episode of Saturday Night Live will air on May 6 on NBC.
