podcast after the Premier League deadline had passed about the Saudi Pro League's ongoing pursuit of Mohamed Salah:"The big question was would it manifest itself in an actual offer. There was an expectation it would come and then, bang. On deadline day we revealed a verbal offer has been made on behalf of Al Ittihad on Thursday night to Mike Gordon, the Fenway Sports Group president and Liverpool director.
"However, it's not case closed in the eyes of the Saudis. Their interest remains. They could continue their pursuit until their own window closes on September 7, or they might come back to this at a later date, whether that be in January or the summer. "Perhaps that money will go higher and their resolve will be tested further but they see Salah as probably their best player, arguably their most important.
"Salah's agent did say earlier this summer that we wouldn't have signed that new three-year contract if we intended to go after one year but this time, when the rumours came back again, they didn't move to deny anything and we're led to believe some discussions have taken place with Salah's representatives.
"I've felt for a while now that's the most likely outcome — but never say never in this industry. One thing we can be certain on is that the Saudis are not short of ambition or money. My feeling is that Salah will stay for this season and help Liverpool try to compete for domestic honours, get back in the Champions League and see where things go from there."
