A school has cancelled its annual trip to a theme park following backlash from some parents. Peacehaven Community School in Sussex came under fire for its criteria for pupils invited on a trip to Thorpe Park which some parents said ‘excluded’ students.
‘Cancelled’ The school offers a trip each year to Thorpe Park to students with good attendance and behaviour records.Complaints were made by parents over the trip for not being inclusive enough. This was because children with low attendance or bad behaviour were not invited. The letter explained further: ‘We have been contacted by some families regarding the criteria for this trip and, on reflection, we feel that it is necessary to revise our systems and processes that we have in place to ensure that a fair and equal opportunity for all students is provided.
The letter continued on, stating that the school is planning an alternative but it needed time to ‘secure arrangements’ before announcing it.
