School that has been 'outstanding' for more than a decade branded 'inadequate' in shock Ofsted report

A Ramsbottom school which had boasted an 'Outstanding' rating for more than a decade has been branded 'Inadequate' by Ofsted inspectors.

Meanwhile, the 'personal development' criteria received a 'Good' rating. The school had not been inspected in 11 years after previously receiving the best possible rating. Inspectors finally returned in March and have now published their report which downgrades it to the lowest one.

The report also noted that not enough leaders or staff "have the skills or knowledge that they need to deliver the curriculum effectively", including in early years. The inspectors said not enough was done to reinforce learning, with some students not remembering any lessons from certain subjects.

In a letter to parents, chair of governors Nabila Afilal and headteacher Anne-Marie Knowles said: "Whilst not in agreement, we do feel it is important to acknowledge the findings of the report and are committed to embedding the required improvements suggested as a matter of upmost urgency.
