The annual Fry Awards has announced the best 50 takeaways and 10 restaurants in the UK, with nine of them located in Scotland. Anstruther's The Wee Chippy restaurant was named one of the top 10 restaurants in the country. Mystery judges visited the establishments and evaluated various aspects such as food quality, cleanliness, and overall dining experience.
The top chippies in Scotland have been named in a prestigious award that picks out the best in the nation. This year's annual Fry Awards has dished out the best 50 takeaways and 10 restaurants across the UK. From Ayrshire to Fife, the Scottish eateries commended by the chippy trade publication Fry Magazine are dotted across the country.
Out of the takeaways awarded, nine are found in Scotland - two more than awarded last year - with Anstruther's The Wee Chippy restaurant named as one of the top 10 restaurants in the UK. Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife has been awarded whilst chippies awarded in Aberdeenshire include Garioch Fish Bar in Inverurie, Mike’s Famous Fish And Chips in Blackburn and Redcloak Fish Bar in Stonehaven. In addition, The Cafe Royal and Moore’s Fish & Chips, both in Dumfries and Galloway, The Fish Works in Ayrshire and The Real Food Cafe in Stirling were also singled out as some of the top fish and chip take outs in the entire UK. The decisions were made thanks to visits from mystery judges who awarded marks across a range of areas from food to cleanliness and overall dining experience. When picking contenders, judges meticulously inspected certain elements during unannounced visits. These include food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence
