The Scottish Ambulance Service launched its Restart a Heart campaign today.
A Scots grandad who collapsed while he was out on a run has been reunited with the ambulance crew who saved his life.
Grandad-of-three John said: "Were it not for the efforts of everyone involved I would not be here today. I am so grateful to your staff. Having performed CPR several times myself when I was an operational fire officer, I never thought it would need to be performed on me." Sophie said: "It was amazing to meet John and his family and to see him looking so well. Not often do you hear stories of people making a full recovery after an out of hospital cardiac arrest. We were just a small part of a big chain of people that helped in John's recovery and I wish him all the best for the future."
Kayleigh added: "Outcomes, like John’s recovery are the best thing about our job. To see him looking so well and taking some time out to thank us was lovely and a truly special moment. It was a privilege to play a small part in John's recovery which enabled him to return home to his family."
