A Scots granddad has been accused of breaking the law and could be sent to prison in Dubai - after asking for music to be turned down while babysitting his granddaughter. Ian MacKeller was in the United Arab Emirates to help his daughter and granddaughter settle in their new home after moving to the Middle East . The 75-year-old was looking after his granddaughter on Hogmanay , with his daughter due to get up for work at 5.30am.

He asked neighbours who were having a party if they could keep the noise down around 1am. His daughter had planned to go and ask them to be mindful of the noise levels but Ian offered to do it instead, taking the 18-month-old with him as she was awake. But the neighbours were reportedly incensed at the request, with his granddaughter said to have had a drink poured over her. Ian, of Aberdeenshire, wanted to report the incident to police but his daughter was against the move as they were new to the area and didn't want to cause any further problems with the neighbours
