Dr Mohammed Alshurafa thought his mum Abeer, 52, disabled dad Bahjat, 63, and youngest brother Amro, were still inside the residential building when it was hit by a rocket shortly after 3am on Sunday.
A Scots university professor has told how he watched in horror as his family home in Gaza was destroyed during Israeli air strikes that were broadcast live on television.
Mohammed, 33, told the Record: "I didn't know anything was going on until I saw it happening live on TV. I was watching Al Jazeera and they had the camera pointing at my family home. I recognised it immediately. "My mum had to choose between telling the neighbours or taking my dad and their belongings out the building. My youngest brother went round the neighbours, smashing on their doors, telling them to get out. After they left, the building was hit with one big rocket.
The academic added: "This all started so suddenly - just four days ago - and all this has already happened. I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight, tomorrow or in a week’s time. Mohammed's sister Shymaa and her three children - Bara, eight; Seba, six; and Ghena, one - have also been forced to evacuate their home, seeking shelter with his other brother Mahmoud and his daughter Laila, 10-months-old.
